"Poet On A Mission"
Poetess, writer, and producer Zanderland Asante has
been embracing inspiring poems for more than 25 years. Her creative works, like the butterfly, have gone through transformation
. . . moving from the cocoon, emerging into a wingspan of truth and inspiration. “God designs my words and weaves a
fabric of simplicity. I am simply the artist with a willing heart, faithful pen, and an empty canvas,” says Zanderland
(Zan).
“I appreciate the inspiration of poets in my life. My grandfather, the late Pastor J.H. Dixon, who
wrote beautiful pieces, including part of the poem Savior Divine, continues to inspire me. My godmother, the late world
renowned storyteller, Griot Mary Carter Smith, also mentored me through her gift of storytelling,” Zan adds.
As the founder & CEO of Trumpet Angel Media and Ministries, Zanderland has used her poetic gifts to
create the God’s Poetic Orchestra Spoken Word with music CD. The CD continues to travel, with U.S. distribution
and a presence in Africa, Europe, Asia, and South America. Trumpet Angel’s on-line reading offering is "Words
Across the Sky" for ages 7-10.
The Gift that Gives
“God has blessed me tremendously. He can turn tragedy into triumph,” says
Zanderland. Orphaned at the age of eight, she and her older brother Drand were raised by their maternal grandmother in
Syracuse, NY. “I’m thankful for my grandmother, older brother, and other relatives and mentors who provided guidance.”
As a way of giving back, she has developed and produced A Child's Trumpet TV program
designed to create awareness of issues impacting our children.
Family is important. Zanderland and her husband Anthony are both ordained ministers.
They have two beautiful children, Kofi, age 15 and Zanbria, age 13. “My husband and children are loving and supportive.
They are precious stones.”
With God as her source and power, "Zan" has embraced strength &
perseverance to run the race of her life. "Jesus Christ is the Author and Finisher of my faith," she says.
